World Cosplay Summit 2025 in Nagoya
The World Cosplay Summit 2025 will be held from August 1st to 3rd in Nagoya, Japan, marking its 23rd year as one of the biggest cosplay events in the world.
Most events are free to attend if you’re not cosplaying, but if you want to watch the World Cosplay Championship on Saturday, tickets range from ¥3,000 to ¥10,000. Cosplayers and photographers can join the fun for ¥1,000 on Friday night or ¥3,000 for Saturday or Sunday, with an extra ¥500 fee if you need to use a changing room.
Just make sure to follow the cosplay and photography rules and check in at the reception with your participation ticket on the day of the event.

Lantern Floating in Hiroshima
Hiroshima Toro Nagashi (Lantern Floating Ceremony) is held every year on August 6 in Hiroshima to honor the lives lost in the atomic bombing and to send messages of peace.
The event takes place in the evening along the Motoyasu River, near the Atomic Bomb Dome. From around 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, thousands of colorful lanterns with handwritten messages are floated on the water, creating a beautiful and emotional scene.
Visitors are welcome to join and can participate by purchasing a lantern for ¥1,000. You can write your own message of peace or remembrance and release it into the river.

Awa Odori Festival in Tokushima
The Tokushima Awa Odori Festival is one of Japan’s most famous traditional dance festivals, held every year from August 12 to 15 in Tokushima City, Shikoku.
During the festival, the city comes alive with music, colorful yukata, and energetic dancers moving through the streets in groups called ren, performing the unique Awa Odori dance. The rhythm of shamisen, drums, and flutes creates an exciting atmosphere that draws over a million visitors each year. The dancing usually begins around 6:00 PM and continues until 10:30 PM each night.
There are both free viewing areas and paid seating, with ticket prices typically ranging from ¥2,000 to ¥15,000 depending on location and time.

Yanai Goldfish Lantern Festival in Yamaguchi
The Yanai Goldfish Lantern Festival is a charming summer event held every year in Yanai City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. In 2025, it is scheduled to take place on August 13.
This unique festival features hundreds of red goldfish-shaped lanterns hanging across the historic white-walled shopping street. At night, the lanterns are lit up, creating a magical, glowing atmosphere.
Events typically start in the late afternoon and lanterns are lit from around 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM and admission fee will be free.

Summer Sonic 2025 in Tokyo
Summer Sonic 2025 will be held on August 16–17. This popular music festival features top international and Japanese artists, and attracts thousands of music lovers every year.
The Tokyo venue is located at ZOZO Marine Stadium and Makuhari Messe, with performances from morning until night. Gates open at 9:00 a.m. and shows usually finish by 9:30–10:00 p.m. Tickets for the event are available starting at ¥20,000 for a one-day ticket, with two-day passes at ¥38,000, and optional Platinum upgrades for exclusive access at ¥34,000 in Tokyo.
There’s no official campervan parking at the venue, but paid parking is available near Makuhari Messe. For overnight stays, we recommend checking nearby RV parks or roadside stations (Michi-no-Eki) that allow campervans.
